Jonathan Griffiths (Jiffy)

(The Kinky Wizzards)

JiffyProgressive funk, jazz drummer Jiffy Griffiths started playing at an early age and received his first drum kit at the tender age of 9 years old. Growing up listening to the likes of Rush, Ray Charles, The Who and Dream Theatre have influenced his unique style of playing and been the catalyst for the start of the ‘Kinky Wizzards’, an up and coming ‘Bass and Drum duo’ with his brother.

Self taught, Jiffy’s early years involved drumming as part of an orchestra that toured and performed all over the UK, this was solely rudimental ‘Snare Drum’ based work.

When Jiffy was 14 years old he was approached to join a jazz band which influenced his own technique and the ‘feel’ that really inspires his audiences.

His fresh approach to drumming led to him being approached by Cardiff’s leading drum store, Drum Depot, to host drum clinics and to share his extraordinary drumming abilities. This has opened doors to other clinics and session work with leading names in the music industry.

The Kinky Wizzards are becoming internationally recognized for their innovative sounds and have already recorded a ‘Drum and Bass’ album with a top producer who has worked with artists such as Paul Weller.

Jiffy’s creative playing and open mind has allowed him to explore all styles of music and he successfully translates this into ‘drumming melody’. He is able to teach various styles from Rock, Jazz and Funk to Latin Sambas and will easily adapt to students’ requirements.

Jiffy’s one to one lessons are engaging & fun and tailored to meet each student’s individual goals. You can learn to play the drums from scratch with a structured course of lessons or brush up on your techniques using Jiffy’s wealth of expertise acquired over his years behind the drum kit!

By using styles such as funk and rock, the Jiffy specialises in sound and feel when playing, and of course GROOVE!! Jiffy encourages independent playing and will encourage you to be creative and have fun with structured patterns and polyrhythm’s. Fun and feel is the aim of the game!

Jiffy is fully CRB certified.

Aled Lloyd

(Cyclamen (Japan), Talmai, Miroist, Explosive Decoy Humans, El Parisa, Nancy and the Hitmen)

During his teens Aled developed under the guidance of the late Tony Levin (European Jazz Orchestra) and played with some of the UK’s leading jazz musicians including Chris Bolton, Steve Waterman and Lee Goodall.

After gaining his music A level, Aled took a year out before heading to Cardiff University where he played with a number of rock and jazz groups culminating in playing on the official song for the ‘Admission Impossible’ campaign, which included a live performance to 10,000 people at London’s Trafalgar Square.

After gaining his Masters degree, Aled went on to get a ‘proper job’, but continued to work on original music, joining the bands Colour Sunday and Alien Square, and quickly realised his passion for drums was too great not attempt a career in music.

Since he began drumming professionally, Aled’s approach to playing, practice and teaching is inspired by progressive drummers including; Travis Orbin, Mike Mangini, Virgil Donati and Alex Rudinger. He is a full time member of Cyclamen from Tokyo, Japan and Welsh language prog rock band Talmai. He also works with original artists including; Miroist, El Parisa (Can i Gymru 2013), Andrew Roberts, Explosive Decoy Humans, The Reinvention, as well as working with function band Nancy and the Hitmen.

Possessing an extensive knowledge of rhythm theory and drum notation, Aled also offers a transcription service for drummers and publishers.

Entering into his fourth year teaching drums professionally, Aled’s student base continues to grow. He’s spent the past year teaching at Drum Depot working with children as young as 6 to grade 8 students.

He says; “Teaching at Drum Depot is brilliant! Brett and Mark have such an incredible enthusiasm for drums and it’s fantastic that they have included such a top class teaching facility within the store. The lessons have been so rewarding. Getting the chance to teach people of all ages with different goals in drumming is a pleasure and having the time and facilities at Drum Depot to work within is fantastic.”

Aled began (and continues to teach) at Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Music Service, working with drummers from year 3 (7 year olds) to sixth form students in schools throughout Cardiff and the Vale. That experience has helped him develop lessons suited to all ages, abilities and musical influences including Rock, Metal, Pop, Funk, Jazz, Latin, Sight Reading and more.

Aled is fully CRB checked.
